Wrapping and Coiling with Lomandra Sat 27th February 1 - 4pm
Learning basketry gives whole new meaning to many of the plants around us and what they have to offer as useful natural materials for weaving. In this workshop, we will focus on a wonderful Australian native and very common plant: Lomandra Longifolia. Lomandra is great to use for a coiled basket using the blanket stitch method.
This is an indigenous style of basket weaving. I acknowledge my teachers Gunditjmara master weaver Aunty Bronwyn for blanket stitch skills and Yarra Yarra Elder Aunty Dot for knowledge of using lomandra for weaving. Stitching skills learnt in the Wrapped and Coiled Basket Design workshop will be of benefit to get you off to a good start, though not essential.
