Good Luck Spider Workshop

Do you know that saying about the money spider?
The one where if you find a tiny spider crawling over your hand, good fortune and wealth will soon come your way?
I invite you to join me in a weaving workshop to create your own ‘good luck’ spider.

Spiders are revered in mythology as symbols of creativity, interconnectedness, resilience, patience and persistence. These traits have surely come from observations of spiders: the resilience of rebuilding their webs after every disturbance, the patience of sitting and waiting for their prey and the creativity of locating and connecting their webs to any suitable given circumstance.

Leaf curling spiders certainly are masters of weaving, with a capacity to weave around a leaf to curl and locate it in an optimum position some distance from the ground too. Pattie Beerens' observations have inspired a curiosity into spiders and how they achieve their amazing webs. Did humans learn to weave from observing the spiders?
The answers to a large extent we can only guess, however as a weaver myself, understanding even in a small way can come through hands on practice of weaving.

In this workshop you will learn:
  • The random weaving method for the spider
  • Joining and wrappingg techniques
  • Use locally gathered plant fibres
I'm excited to offer this workshop in conjunction with Pattie Beerens LCS (Leaf Curling Spider) exhibition
Sun 17th November 1 - 4pm

at the Anglesea Art Space, 2/103 Great Ocean rd. Anglesea
Cost: $110
