 Jan 2017

Mae la Oop is a tiny village in the mountains of Northern Thailand, where culture and a traditional way of life is maintained.
In the Karen culture, basket weaving is mens work and fabric weaving on a back strap loom, a part of the daily routine for the women.

A Patrick Dougherty Sculpture
Federation Square, Melbourne, Oct 2012

A team of volunteers was needed to complete the mammoth task of building the piece, essentially giant cubby house in the middle of the city. What a great experience it was.

I acknowledge the Wadawurrung as the Traditional Owners and Protectors of the place where I live and work.
I acknowledge their ancestors who cared for the land, rivers and sea all of its creatures and plants for thousands of generations.
I pay my respects to the elders past, present and future.
