On return from this trip an opportunity arose to raise funds for Karen people lving in Myanamar ​with a project "Clean Water for Wao Gaw Ki"

Mae la Oop is a tiny village in the mountains of Northern Thailand, where culture and a traditional way of life is maintained. 
In the Karen culture, basket weaving is mens work and fabric weaving on a back strap loom, a part of the daily routine for the women.

How lucky was I to meet Charity a Kenyan basket weaver. Here she is giving me a few tips on how she makes a basket. Materials used are sisal, plastic bags and wool.

A Patrick Dougherty Sculpture

A team of volunteers was needed to complete the mammoth task of building the piece, essentially giant cubby house in the middle of the city. What a great experience it was.
