Swamp Antechinus - small fibre art sculpture

Picture
Swamp Antechinus
Antechinus minimus
Status – near threatened
It’s breeding season for this tiny, shrew like marsupial. Timing is critical, so that the emergence of the young from the pouch coincides with peak insect populations. Competition for the females is fierce and this eleven month old male is giving his all, fulfilling his penultimate purpose before drawing his last breath just a few weeks later.

This original artwork is created on a wire frame, covered with a mix of fabric scraps.
This artwork is currently available through Eagles Nest Gallery, Aireys Inlet
