Basketry
Learning the craft of basket weaving opened up the world of plant fibres as a valuable resource at a time when I was searching for more sustainable ways of creating art.
My introduction to the craft was through basketmaker Joy Beeby, who encouraged me to join the Basketmakers of Victoria. Since then I have attended numerous workshops, including internationally, and to several of the National Basketweavers Gatherings; five days of basketweaving with women who generously share their knowledge of techniques and materials. The friendships made are invaluable and the connections they bring are deeply rooted in the passing on of ancient skills and plant knowledge. The techniques are varied and as I gain some accomplishment in them, its hard to resist some experimentation with materials and forms.
The collections below are grouped by the technique they represent.
