EPHEMERAL ART WORKSHOP with Caroline Hawkins
Creating Ephemeral art is about capturing the 'essence of place' with a visual art piece using only materials found on site.
Observe nature intimately and develop your own 'art in nature' practice; journaling and contemplating potential themes to focus on.
Initially a group workshop will cover the principles of ephemeral art, providing some boundaries. Become absorbed, problem solve and respond emotionally to the colours, shapes and interactions of the forest.
There will be plenty of opportunities to experiment with different materials and explore ideas, concluding with implementing your learning into a final art piece.
Check out Caroline's Ephemeral Art page for inspiring art in nature examples and the Natural Connections Project; a weekend of ephemeral art held in March 2021.

HUMAN-NATURE a movement session with Evelyn Switajewski
This session is carefully curated together with Evelyn’s many years of experience as a dancer, therapist and 5Rhythms facilitator. It will explore the relationship of our innate human nature, our connection to our inner and outer worlds and the points where they meet in our sensory bodily experience. Drawing on the environment around us and the exploration of self through movement.

AN ECO-SOMATIC, EXPERIENTIAL SESSION, presented by Rivka Worth to support embodied integration of the Art and Movement in Nature weekend.
Eco Soma is the meeting place of body & environment. It is our fingerprint in the bark, tree's breath in our lungs, sun's heat in our liver and river in our bone marrow. Eco Soma integrates movement & dance, anatomy & somatisation, futuring, ritual, ceremony & prayer; through skin to skin outdoor contact with nature.
This is a physical, spiritual and ecological embodiment practice, building union and wholeness in our bodies in collaboration with the greater body; Earth.
Eco Soma is a romance with the natural world where we attune to the heartbeat of the mother, discovering our own myth to Remember Why We Are Here.

KARYN FOLWELL I’m a Melbourne girl who moved to the Surf Coast 20 years ago, and prior to moving there I was scratching that travel itch and working overseas as an Occupational Therapist. It was during this time away I realized how much I loved being outdoors and how that began from a young age with family camping holidays in the bush or on the coast. After returning to Australia and making a life on the coast, I recently found Forest Therapy and I am now stepping up my love of nature further. I am studying to be a Certified Forest Therapy Guide and wanting to draw others into a nature immersion and share the benefits of forest bathing with others wanting to improve their health and wellbeing.

CAROLINE HAWKINS
Sculptural Fibre Artist Caroline Hawkins work encompasses wrapped textiles and structural weaving techniques to create sculptural forms which borrow from methods used by basket weavers. A key feature is the plant fibres she uses, which are harvested locally. The process of gathering and sourcing these fibres provide a unique connection with nature, which in turn inform the subject matter of the work, from delicate wrapped animal and bird sculptures to more organic forms. The fascination with natural materials has seen an extension of Caroline’s practice into site specific ephemeral art. The immediacy of creating art using ‘only hands and materials which are present’, requires concentration, focus and an intimate awareness of your surrounding environment. A practice which aligns beautifully with mindfulness and its associated wellness benefits, bringing an added purpose to the creation of art in nature. |
